Dr. Elizabeth Otero was born in New York City where she lived the first seven years of her life. As a child she would suffer from allergies and asthma requiring frequent emergency room visits. Her pediatrician recommended to her parents they should all move to Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico there was minimal improvement in the allergy and asthma symptoms until she was sent to an Allergist and Immunologist where she underwent allergy skin testing and was found to have multiple allergies. She was treated with environmental control and a five year program of allergy shots with a remarkable improvement. This personal experience contributed in Dr. Otero’s decision to become an Allergist and Immunologist, a field in medicine that she can empathize with the patients and get them to feel much better.
Dr. Otero earned her bachelor of science in Chemistry with distinction from the University of Puerto Rico and her doctorate degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. The residency on Internal Medicine was accomplished at the Jewish Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine, and her combined fellowship training in Adult and Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Barnes and Children’s Hospitals also at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Since then she has lived in Jupiter, Florida. For the past 16 years she has worked at Allergy and Asthma Care of the Palm Beaches with offices in Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
Dr. Elizabeth Otero is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Florida Medical Association (FMA).
